Laura Fonner Joins Champion Hospitality Group


Laura Fonner, recently the chef at Duner’s, has joined Champion Hospitality Group and will launch Dumplin’ in July, 2020 in Charlottesville. The Dumplin’ Food Truck will feature Fonner’s house made dumplings and other favorite dishes.

Fonner said, “This idea is something I have spent years crafting and it makes my soul happy. A food truck allows me to bring my dumplings to the community in a way that is affordable and accessible, so everyone can come share my love of food.”

Champion owner Hunter Smith said, “Laura is exactly right for Champion Hospitality Group and we are excited about the Dumplin’ brand and to welcome her to our team. Her food is amazing and we want to give her the ability to share it widely.”

Fonner was slated to take over ownership of Duner’s on June 1, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed her plans. “I have always admired Hunter’s commitment to the community and his work ethic, so it is a natural choice to partner with Champion.”

Fonner has been a long-time contributor to the nonprofit PACEM, which provides winter shelter to the Charlottesville-area homeless population, as well as founding a program that brings together chefs, farmers, and restaurants to help feed the homeless. It was recently announced that Fonner will make a second appearance on Guy’s (Fieri) Grocery Games on The Food Network on July 8.
